What is Thread Count?

Do not be fooled by thread count. There's a common misconception that higher thread count guarantees better quality.

Many sheets which advertise 1000 thread count are actually a count of fibres within each thread.  It is impossible to jam 1000 normal yarns into a square inch - your sheets would be too thick and unmanageable. Manufacturers often split or manipulate fibres to reach the desired marketable number - not to produce a superior product, but to boost sales.

This 'trick' has been highly effective because shoppers have always felt buying sheets is a gamble and the attractive thread count marker is a benchmark by which they believe they can reach satisfaction. Unfortunately these fibres are weak because they have been manipulated and produce sheets which lack longevity. Many people we've spoken to, during our research process have expressed their disappointment with their 1000 thread count sheets. There is nothing worse than coming down from high expectations.

Good quality commercial sheets are graded as anything between 160-220 thread count which is the 'Pre thread count craze' desired indicator still used by luxury hotels. These sheets are 220 thread count COMMERCIAL QUALITY.
